Finnish Kids' Forest Trip Day is a children’s day of nature celebration!

On the Forest Trip Day, children embrace the forest and the forest embraces the children!

Kids' Forest Trip Day is a major national event that encourages everyone to take children on forest trips. You can organize a forest trip at any time, but the children's own forest trip day is in May each year.
This year, the Finnish Kids' Forest Trip Day took place on 16.5.2025 for the tenth time!

Forest trips are a time to move, play, wonder and learn - in a fun way! All kinds of adventures in the woods, in the bogs or sitting on the beaches give you a chance to relax or rejoice. You can set off on a trip without much planning, but sometimes a little planning makes the trip even more enjoyable. The Forest Trip Day event offers lots of inspiring ideas for activities.

Have you already got your backpack packed?
"We have a dream. The dream smells of the forest. The kind where children's joy rings and blueberries taste! One where the deep green of moss meets the hum of pine trees swaying in the wind. What it is like to walk in the forest and stop! To wonder. How does the water of a brook feel on your toes, a raindrop on your shoulder or the sun on your face after a long walk? If you've walked in a morning mist in a forest where a spring bird is singing, you've been happy."
President Sauli Niinistö is the permanent patron of the Finnish Kids' Forest Trip Day. The event is organised by the Research Group on Biology Didactics and Outdoor Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Helsinki.
